1870

Founding

Good Shepherd founded as a mission of St. John’s Cathedral, with members meeting in each other’s homes

1879

First Building

First Good Shepherd Chapel built at Riverside Avenue and Stonewall Street

1886

Early Growth

Attendance up to 183 with nine Sunday school teachers and 90 students

1892

A New Parish

Good Shepherd becomes a full parish with over 200 members

1916

Momentum

The Rev. Milton R. Worsham, Good Shepherd’s first Rector, set out to build a new church that was also a seven-day-a-week campus serving the surrounding neighborhood

1917

The Pool

Craig Lounge, originally built as a gymnasium, is completed; Mrs. W.W. Cummer generously funds Good Shepherd’s community pool

1918

Worsham Hall

Worsham Hall (now Betsy Lovett Hall) is completed; originally a worship space, it now serves as our parish hall

1929

The Nave & Organ

Current nave is completed and the E.M. Skinner organ is installed

C. 1950

Stained Glass

The Payne Studio designs and installs the stained glass windows.

1980

Sunday School

Sunday School classroom annex is completed

1981

Cloister

Cloister addition completes the Good Shepherd campus

c. 1990

After School

After school children’s program generously funded by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund

c. 1990

Pool Renovation

With funds from the Pillar family, the pool undergoes a major restoration

1991

Organ Restoration

After decades of regular use, the Skinner organ underwent a complete restoration to bring it back to its original, reliable state

2015

Sunday School Renovation

Funding is secured for the renovation of the Sunday School Annex
